Subject: Local general contractor recommendation
Hi Pam —
Nelu Skumpija of Absolute Construction and Development (http://absolutehomebuilders.com, 919 929-1057) built my hone in Silk Home. (A picture of it is on the bottom left of their home page.) I highly recommend them. Nelu was attentive to, my construction needs and wants, was attentive to the building process, was on-site daily. His wife Lisa worked with me on a budget that itemized expenditures for floors, cabinets, windows, doors, etc. Her regular reports helped me stay within that budget. The vendors they use for doors, windows, cabinets, floors plumbings fixtures etc were likewise easy to work with, though they were open to my shopping anywhere. (I chose to go mainly with their vendors because in my experience it eliminates figure pointing if something goes wrong. BTW: when I did comparison shopping, their vendors were competitive) Lisa was also very helpful in arranging appointments with their vendors and subcontractors (like meeting with the electrician to go over where the electrical outlets would go).
Beyond that, I was impressed with the sheer professionalism that Nelu and his subcontractors brought to the job. Friends and neighbors, some of whom are in some area of construction or another dropped by during the construction process and after, and all were impressed with the work – which gave me a big boost of confidence. One even climbed on the roof to see how the gutters were put together. It never occurred to me that one way was better than another if they worked.
Finally, I did have a couple of bids — and Absolute Construction came in about $30,000 less.
I understand what you say about contractors. I have had some nightmarish ones also. Absolute Construction was not one of them. Whoever you chose, I hope you have as easy of a time building your new home as I did.
