Subject: holly trees

I drove south on 15-501 on 5/7/12 around 7:00am and there was a tree service truck parked in the Capital Bank parking lot. It was a company that I know does tree service. I came backhome after dark, so missed the trees. Then I read the pieces on the chatlist and made a trip down pass these holly trees and wondered how did I miss the tornado or hurricane that came thru town without me hearing about it. These trees look like they have been through some violent storm, very unnatural looking. Why was anyone allowed to murder these beautiful holly trees?

Since I came to believe that this was the tree of Pittsboro, since  I moved back into this area in 2006. Then the  large holly died in the parking lot across from the old General Store Cafe, so I thought that the holly tree must represent Pittsboro. Such as the oak tree in Raleigh, the longleaf pine in the Sandhills, etc…

Whoever was allowed to do this and whatever committee is supposed to save trees in this county obviously does not exist. I have lived in several states and most of them have a committee in each county to help the trees. From the amount of trees that I have seen cut down needlessly since 2006 I am concerned that this county would be wise to have a tree committee, and one with members who love and understand trees, so that the old trees are left alone when healthy and old trees with problems are dealt with as an elderly person would be taken care of. Not just gotten rid of, because someone thinks that it is too much trouble to deal with.

My deepest sympathy to all of the lost trees and hurt trees in Chatham County,

Robin G
