First and foremost, we would like to thank everyone who came out to our Special Needs Family Fun Day this Saturday. We appreciate those that came out with their families to celebrate this very special first annual event with Parks and Rec. We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did and hope that we will be able to provide activities for this population in the future. Thanks again!
Just a reminder of a few events coming up this month at Chatham County Parks and Recreation:
Spaces are still available for our Summer Day Camp at Northwest Park (located at 2413 Woody Store Road in the Silk Hope area). The fee for camp is $50.00 per week. Camp dates are June 25-August 10, with no camp the week of July 4. Camp runs daily from 7:30am-5:30pm. Please e-mail me at or visit the Parks and Rec website and click on the “Youth Camps” section for a registration form. Spaces are going fast, so sign your child up for camp today!
Swim lesson registration will be held at Chatham County Parks and Recreation on Tuesday, May 8 from 11am to 2 pm and on Wednesday, May 16 from 3pm to 6pm. Swim lessons will be held at Pittsboro Swim Association located at 125 Camp Street in Pittsboro. The fee is $45.00. age to participate.
We are also still taking registration for Whimsy Paint courses. The next session will be on Saturday, May 19 at the Parks and Rec building located at 90 East Street next to Hardees in Pittsboro. No experience is necessary and supplies are provided. For youth (ages 8-15), class is from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm and the cost is $20.00. The theme for youth in the month of May is Peace Sign. For adults (ages 16 and up), class is from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and the cost is $25.00. The theme for the adult class this month is The Strong Woman. Chatham County 4-H Department will host Adventure Camp and is now taking enrollment until Friday, June 1. This camp is open to all children ages 6-12 and 4-H membership is not required. The camp runs from June 11-15 from 8:30 am until 4:30pm and will be held at Northwest District Park located at 2413 Woody Store Road in the Silk Hope area. The cost for this camp is $75.00 per person per week and includes snacks, crafts and insurance. All fees are non-refundable. Campers must provide a bag lunch each day except for Fridays (pizza will be purchased for the campers). Enrollment is limited to 65 campers per week, so register your child now! The Chatham County Sheriff’s Department will be running its G.R.E.A.T. Summer Camp from June 18-22 at Northwest District Park. This camp is for children ages 12-15 (7th-10th grade). Please contact your school resource officer for more details.
