Subject: $ to Run a Background Check
In reference to the background checks for school system volunteers, I do not understand why the purported cost is $70 for a criminal check. As a landlord, I regularly run criminal background checks AND credit scores for a combined cost of $34.95. The website for USsearch.com claims to run criminal checks for $19.95 (they also state that if no results are found they don’t charge).
Even if administrative expenses need to be included, $70 is too high. If we need to support our teachers and our children through providing volunteers, it should not cost an individual $70. In addition, the sheriff’s department should be able to run criminal background checks for minimal charge (if they are not already running the checks).
