On Thursday, October 6, CORA Food Pantry will present the first of what it hopes will be an annual event to raise awareness of our area’s social and economic problems and how they impact individuals and families. CORA also hopes the series will encourage community activism toward helping those affected by adverse circumstances and toward working for permanent solutions. Please come join the staff and volunteers of CORA Food Pantry and our colleagues in other human services organizations to learn more about food issues among the working poor, poverty in North Carolina and the impact of government policy on food security.

CORA FOOD PANTRY is presenting a special program  “Food Insecurity Among the Working Poor” at the Chatham County Community Library Thursday, October 6, 2011
4:00 p.m. Reception and Refreshments
4:30 – 5:30 p.m.  Presentation and Discussion
Presenter:   Maureen Berner, Ph.D. is a professor at the UNC School of Government.  She has directed the NC Hunger Project which has documented hunger and food insecurity in all areas of North Carolina.  She has done research on food pantries which is a special interest.
The public is invited to attend. The program and reception are free. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
