Subject: A friend in need . .
Today, I was driving on hyway 64 and noticed what I thought was a cocoon attached to my car antena, waving wildly in the wind – The object was large- seemingly hanging on by a slender strand. Much to the annoyance of those behind me, I slowed down on the chance that the cocoon would not become detached. I crept into my driveway and inspected the “cocoon”-
It was actually a very large beetle completely wrapped in spider web- it had only one leg free-
I began what I thought would be simple, removing the web. The beetle had pinchers and was able to bite back, even though I was trying to save him.
The spider web proved to be very difficult to remove. It was sticky and was tightly wound around each leg, the head and waistline (not sure that is correct term) I was afraid I would pull off a leg or break its back in the process. Finally, after much struggle and work, he was able to pinch me one last goodbye and then walked away- glistening and glimmering in the morning sun- We both were happy.
