Just catching up on the chatlist after a week away. i am a little reluctant to post this, not trying to start a fight, just offering balance. i am sorry that some seem to have had a poor or very bad experience at this facility. my experiences could not have been more different.
12/31/06 a young collie approached as i was walking my dog. she was dirty and smelled very bad. when she rolled over in a submissive posture, i saw the problem. her throat was an open wound from embedded collars. i took her to Triangle Emerg. Vet and they were very patient with the dog and with me. i was a little freaked at this dog’s condition. surgery was required to remove the collars and yes, i did have to assume financial responsibility.
as soon as i could, i had my regular vet look at the surgery site. she said they had done a great job of cleaning up the area, removing what had to be removed. the wound was deep and it was explained to me (both vets) that while it was hard to look at, this meant that the area was now a healthy site. best to allow for natural healing, no need to cover or suture.
okay, so about 2 years later and on a weekend, (now) my dog seriously cuts her paw running through the woods. i bring her back to Triangle Emergency, more surgery, more bills.
i assumed it would be expensive. i think they all are. i assumed i would have to pay the bill, but i don’t recall having to prove i could or would before my dog got the care she needed.
my heart goes out to all who find themselves in the dire situation of having to bring their beloved pet in for emergency vet care.
