Additionally, the inclement weather days include: January 2, 23 & 24,
February 20, March 12 and April 6 as opposed to January 2 & 24, February 20 & April 6.
(There are no changes to instructional days.)

http://www.chatham.k12.nc.us/board/meetings/2010-2011/boemtg_07_19_11/Agenda%20Item-Revised%20Policy%207920.pdf
We request that the second reading of this policy is waived due to the uly 1 effective date of the provision.
Added:
3. In determining which positions shall be subject to a reduction in force, the Superintendent shall consider the following:
a. Structural considerations, such as identifying positions, departments, courses, programs, operations, and other areas where there are (i) less essential, duplicative, or excess personnel; (ii) job responsibility and/or position inefficiencies; (iii) opportunities for combined work functions; and/or (iv) decreased student or other demands for curriculum, programs, operations, or other services.
b. Organizational considerations, such as anticipated organizational needs of the school system and program/school enrollment.
Modified (between *):
C. Criteria
The primary consideration in any reduction in force will be the maintenance of a sound and balanced educational program that is consistent with the functions and responsibilities of the school district. The board will consider the following factors in determining which employees will be included in the
reduction in force:
1. *work* performance;
2. joint licenses;
3. program enrollment;
4. service in extra duty positions and ability to fill such positions;
5. length of service, with higher priority given to service in this school district;
6. recommendations and advice from the superintendent; and
7. degree level.
Among these factors primary consideration will be given to criteria (1) and (6) above.*In assessing an employee’s work performance for purposes of this policy, the school system may consider performance evaluations, improvement plans, past disciplinary actions, and other relevant factors as determined by the Superintendent or the board.*
Deleted from F. Termination/Reemployment of a Career Employee:
Career teachers whose names are placed on such a list will have a priority on all positions for which they are qualified which become available in the school district for the three consecutive years succeeding their dismissal. If the school district offers the dismissed teacher a position for which the
teacher is licensed and the position is refused, the teacher’s name will be removed from the priority list.
Budget Recommendations to the County Commissioners

During our budgetary process our budget deficit number included a projected state discretionary funding cut of $1,597,239. We have now been notified that the actual state discretionary funding cut is $2,303,420; leaving a deficit of $706,181. If you add the $98,268.02 for the back three years of water/sewer cost for Northwood, we are still facing a budget deficit of $804,449.02. The Board Chair and Superintendent are scheduled to meet with the county commissioners on Monday, July 18th to request additional funds to cover this deficit.
Note: there is an agenda item at the July 18 county commissioners work session agenda (2 pm, Ag Building, Pittsboro): “Board of Education Presentation” on the budget.
