I’m a little behind on my chatlist reading but Tom West’s recent quote from Mike Cross’s blog that the new Chatham budget is basically sound mischaracterized Mike’s position by quoting only a small portion of the post. Tom didn’t include a link to that post but you can find it here:
http://cross4chatham.blogspot.com/2011/06/june-4-2011-budget-approved-reckoning.html.
Mike does say in this post that the budget is basically sound, but he also made a few more points that might be interesting to chatlist readers:
“…for me, it was a reckoning day. I thought I had seen and heard everything during my service on the BOC, but now, I reckon I had not!
“I do have a real distaste for being blind-sided by my peers! No reason for it. As the Board majority planned to cut the budget review process, I would have thought it appropriate to advise the minority members in advance of such action… but that is apparently the nature of Chatham politics.
” When scheduled events, in this case our budget process, are unexpectedly and abruptly changed, it does affect peoples lives and plans. There’s no wonder public emotions are all over the board… from elated to disgusted. We are rarely all elated or all disgusted at the same time!
“Did I know this vote would be called early? Obviously not. What did I feel when the vote was called? Surprised and Betrayed.”
Then Mike advises us to all take a deep breath, as Tom reported in his post..
And he concludes:
“Having attended the UNC School of Government – Essentials of County Government Course – several times and hearing their staff consistently praise Chatham’s budget process as the best in the state and a process which all NC counties should employ, I have to wonder if their respect will go away. It has been a source of Chatham Pride
for me and others for a long time. …”
Life can certainly be unsettling when you’re not in charge!
…but we will work through this together. A little compromise is good for the soul!
*…and would be great for Chatham County.”*
I have to say I certainly agree with that last statement. The recent political rancor is distasteful to me and I’m sure many of my neighbors. We want the same things, we should be able to come together and find ways for these things to happen. In my humble opinion of course!
best wishes,

It’s amazing how Chatham Co. cannot keep up with all these Camper Parks that are popping up everywhere. There has to be some recourse. You cannot let land owners just place people who live in a CAMPER right beside your house without discussing it with the FAMILY beside it. One thing is for sure in Chatham Co. Leadership is non existent. What about utilities ? what exactly are these people getting away with ? Once again, you don’t have leaders. What you have is people following an agenda. Has to be, how can a county government who is gasping for cash overlook something that is in the OPEN ? Chatham Co. Water Dept. is like the Taliban, they only prey on families, not these low life camper park crooks. One more thing, Who are thes vegabonds who are living beside my FAMILY ???? Nobody needs the extra stress of greedy people at their bedroom window.
