Subject: Bock, Stewart and Petty need to stand up for Chatham, not Wake
Oh Jeffrey, how hollow do the words appear when written by a liberal. Why is it that the liberals support individual “property rights” when it reflects the position of the left, but otherwise is not worthy of consideration? Why do you assume only residential development, and no commercial enterprise? Why has Chatham County, under years of liberal control, not invested in our infrastructure and thereby encouraged property owners and business to develop within our county borders, rather than seek services from Cary through voluntary annexation?
Surely, if the annexation is “voluntary”, no one should be complaining. It matters not whether the property is owned “in absentia”; nor whether the purchasing developer makes the condition of purchase dependent upon Cary annexation. The property owner has every right to accept that condition of purchase, or reject it if it does not confirm to his/her satisfaction.
If those in opposition to that condition are not prepared to offer to purchase the land for a competitive price without such stipulation, then what rights have they to force the seller to sell to a third party under terms that they, the opposition, stipulate? Better still, why not purchase the property and place a restrictive covenant on it to prevent future voluntary annexation? Voluntary annexation is far more acceptable than the involuntary nature of government exercised eminent domain that allows a “purchaser” to develop just to swell the tax coffers of the government.
The real question is – Are the property owners and/or Cary acting contrary to Federal and/or State law? If not, then what is your complaint? If you do not like the annexation laws of the State of North Carolina, and I among many do not, then why are you not up at the State Capitol petitioning the legislature to change the laws? After all, the liberals have had 150 years of control in which to change them. Maybe I will see you there!
