I was really excited a couple of months ago when I saw the signs that Tractor Supply was coming to Siler City. They advertised a ‘mass interview’ which took place over a few days and proceeded to get the store open. It’s now open and I was disappointed when I read the article yesterday in the Chatham News about the store.

They have 15 employees and only 3 are full time, including the store manager who was brought in by Tractor Supply. The assistant manager & a receiving position are also full time. I do not know if these 2 positions went to local people or if they were also brought in by Tractor Supply. The remaining 12 part time workers likely will have no benefits and will make minimum wage or slightly above.

I actually like Tractor Supply and have shopped there for years. My gripe is that a big hoopla was made over a new business coming to town and in the end Siler City gets part-time, low pay, no benefit jobs out of it. And that is nothing new for Siler City or the way other companies do business too.
