Subject: A vow for the next election cycle
I propose a bi-partisan pledge for the voters of Chatham County to take. Let us vow that we will all very carefully note the names of the candidates being endorsed by those consarned robo-dialers and refuse to vote for anyone using such forms of techno-intrusion (or having them used in their behalf).
I got so tired of getting up and answering my phone, expecting to hear someone who wanted to talk to me as Brenda, only to find that it was a machine wanting to talk to me as “voter.” I don’t have to make a special effort to hear an ad on the TV when I’ve already got it on or to pick up a printed flyer with the rest of my mail when I open my mailbox. But I do have to make a special effort to answer the phone. Finding nothing on the other end but a machine really torqued me.
Refusing to vote for any candidate who uses or has used in his/her behalf such a devise might mean that a bunch of us would simply not be able to vote for any candidate in a particular race, because we couldn’t stand to vote for the other person. But if we all did that, maybe they’d try to target our votes in the future using less offensively intrusive methods?
