Subject: Fireplace in Library
Hello,
I recently saw a post here that apparently no one responded to, but it got me curious. I was at the library 2 weeks ago and was in a bit of a hurry so only briefly looked at the beautiful fireplace made by Siglinda Scarpa with help from others. There were a number of yellow post-its attached.
Then I saw the post here about how the messages inscribed on the tiles were censored. I was there today and there were no post-its (which possibly had nothing to do with censorship), BUT there were two tiles that had short messages and a yellow tile was glued on top of a word or words on each, rendering the statements non-sensical.
I agree with the original poster’s comment about it being utterly ridiculous to censor words in an edifice that stands for search for knowledge and free expression.
I would really love to know what words were covered up by those tiles and why. Here are the two sentences. Anybody have a clue?
“What urge will save us now that …….?….. won’t” and “If you had behaved nicely the ….?….. wouldn’t exist”.
