Subject: Voter Registration 10/14/2010 – Something is Brewing
Chatham voter registration as of 10/14/2010:
Total 42498
Democrat 20147 47%
Republican 11059 26%
Libertarian 48 .001%
Unaffiliated 11244 27%
From my memory of registration thirty years ago, Democrats have lost 25 % or more of the total voters. The historic ratio was 75 % Democrat, 25 % Republican for decades.
Registration in 1986:
Total 11314
Democrat 8628 76%
Republican 2345 21%
Unaffiliated 341 3%
The change is from Democrat to Unaffiliated. Chatham’s population has almost doubled in forty years.
The change in statistics is born out statewide, as of October 10, 2010..
Total 6128650
Democrat 2764295 45.0%
Republican 1952713 31.6$
Libertarian 8911 0.1%
Unaffiliated 1456713 23.6%
The Democratic party is considered liberal. Therefore, the move away from the time honored Southern party must be conservatives fleeing a party which no longer accommodates them. Watch for a change in voter preferences this November. Party affiliations will no longer reflect votes for candidates. Issues and the liberal-conservative trends will determine winners.
