Subject: Archie closing shop
It is indeed sad to hear that Archie is closing his store on Hillsboro St. There are no others like him.
Service with a smile and most of the time a good laugh- He madel our problem seem simple once we had explained what was wrong.
I first met Archie I think, in 1973 or 74, he did not yet have his appliance store. He was working behind the counter of an auto supply firm located in the building now occupied by J. Henry Paint.
Archie first started out in his present location, as a Sears Catalogue Store, a complicated operation indeed. When Sears phased out catalog sales operations, Archie switched to appliances.
I can’t say that I have bought lots of appliances from Archie but I have always bought any appliance I needed from him. An upright freezer, a gas stove, a washer and dryer,a big refrigerator, a couple of T.V.s, and three or four micro-waves. He always delivered and installed when he promised and haulded away the clunker.
Most recently in Oct, my clothes dryer (bought 20 years ago from Archie) stopped working. I stopped in the store and was looking a new dryers.
Archie asked what the problem was and decided it was only a broken belt- which he promptly supplied and installed for me.
Good luck Archie- You will be missed!
