Here is the link to the application to fill Col Totten’s seat on the school board.

Applications are due in the Central Office by 5 pm, Friday, January 22. The board will hold a special meeting Monday, January 25 from 7-9 pm to review the applications, possibly interview applicants (you will be notified in advance), and to vote to fill the vacancy. The new member will be sworn in at the meeting Feb 15.

I urge anyone in school board district 4 who is concerned about education to apply, particularly people in the northern part of that district (since the board has stated a preference for someone who will not be in the same district as Deb McManus if the district lines are changed to match the commissioners’ districts.)

Also, anyone in school board district 3 (Moncure west along the southern part of the county) – there is no word yet if the commissioners have the authority to change the school board districts. If they do not, that will be an open seat, because Kathy Russell will be unable to run in that (her current) district. (The board of elections discovered that Kathy actually lives slightly outside of that district, something that they or Kathy were not aware of previously.)
