Subject: Phone Book Results
THANK YOU ALL THAT RESPONDED!!! A bunch of you wanted me to post the results of my query so here it is…
I had 33 respondents with the following results: 25 people said they use the internet exclusively, 5 people said primarily the internet but will grab the phone book once in a while, and 3 people responded that the phone book is their main source for local numbers.
Of the internet sites google was largest search engine mentioned with 411.com, switchboard.com, yellowpages, com, directory.com, and bing.com also noted.
Of the phone book most mentioned was real yellow pages then chatham directory.
Here were some statements mentioned that I found interesting. Hope this info may help others decide if they feel phone book advertising is really a primary mode of listing/ searching anymore.
“I have been in this area for 3 years and have never received so many phone books in any one location”
“as an Adopt-a-Highway volunteer I can convey that many many phone books are simply left by the side of our roads”
“More and more people can’t afford a cell phone and a land line, and the only way you can get a phone book (without taking one from someone who has an extra lying around) is to set up a land line”.
“Our neighborhood of 8 does not use them and they leave 10 to 15 every year..”
“I do because the internet is not always easy to find what you are looking for.. too much info”
“if I know a business exists, but do not know their number, I use the phone book at home because I’m still in the 3rd world of dial-up for Internet”
and this one just b/c I thought it was funny “I probably use the phone books to justify their existence as much as anything”
Thanks again,
Laurie
