Photography Contest and Photo Class*

Grab your cameras and get outside to capture in photographs the natural
resources that make Chatham County special.  Chatham Conservation
Partnership (CCP) is sponsoring an Amateur Nature Photography Contest
for adults and youths at least 13 years of age.  CCP wants to use the
contest as a way to show the diversity and beauty of Chatham’s natural
resources.  Photographs should be of Chatham County’s natural
landscapes, Jordan Lake, rivers and streams, wildlife, forests and
farmland.  No photographs of pets or domestic animals, but ones that
include farm animals on farmland are acceptable.  Amateur photographers
do not have to be a resident of Chatham County, but the subject of the
photograph must be located in Chatham County.  Entries will be accepted
between June 1 and August 31 and must have been taken in 2008-2009.
Winning photographs will be published in The Chatham Record and
exhibited in Pittsboro and Siler City.   Full details with contest rules
and entry form, along with more information about the Chatham
Conservation Partnership, are available at
http://chathamconservation.wikispaces.com.

To kick off the contest, CCP is sponsoring a nature photography class on
Saturday, June 13 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.  Instructor will be Jeff Davis,
award-winning photographer with The Chatham News/Record.  Davis, who
will also be judging the contest, is this year’s winner of the NC Press
Association awards for nature and sports photography.  The class will be
held at the new Visitor Center for Jordan Lake State Recreation Area
located on Highway 64 near Wilsonville.  Attendance is free, but
preregistration is required since class size is limited.  Bring your
camera for hands-on practice.  Preregister for the photography class by
sending e-mail to Gretchen Smith at
mailto:.

Chatham Conservation Partnership is a broad-based group of organizations
and individuals with a common interest in conservation in Chatham
County.  Anyone with an interest in conservation is welcome to
participate in CCP meetings and activities.  Formed in 2006, CCP’s
mission is to develop and implement strategies for a community
conservation vision that builds awareness, protection, and stewardship
of Chatham County’s natural resources. One of CCP’s goals is to promote
the conservation, restoration, health and sustainable use of the
landscape and the native terrestrial and aquatic communities that depend
in whole or in part on the lands and waters of Chatham County.  CCP’s
next meeting is scheduled for July 23.
