May 3, 2009, 7-9 p.m. Storytelling for Grownups at the Bynum General
Store!
Please join us for an evening of storytelling in a charming town and
venue! You will have the opportunity to hear a variety of storytelling
styles and stories from some of the areas finest! Come early for a
walk along the Haw River and a stroll about Bynum’s mill village.
Louise Omoto Kessel will host the event. A long time resident of
Chatham County, Louise is pleased to be performing in her old “home
town” of Bynum. Louise tells traditional and contemporary stories from
a variety of sources, including her own Japanese-Buddhist/Russian-
Jewish family background.
Bill Friedman will treat us to some of his amazing and wonderful
original stories, many rooted in his experiences growing up Jewish in
Mobile Alabama. Bill’s stories are an artful mix of funny, intimate,
and wise. They will take you from high school football practice to a
grandfathers death bed, from Jewish summer camp to an unforgetable MLK
day celebration, and way beyond.
Garry Lipson is a high school construction teacher and track coach
that took a storytelling class with Louise MANY years ago and rocked
the house at their recital with a hilarious personal experience story.
Look forward to a rare public performance from a fine storyteller!

10 and up would likely enjoy the program.

To get to the Bynum General Store from the NORTH:
Take 15-501 South towards Pittsboro.
Pass Fearrrington Village.
Look for Allen and Sons BBQ on your LEFT. (if you cross the 15-501 Haw
River Bridge, you missed it, turn around and try again! Bynum Road
will be the second road on your right coming south after the bridge.)
TURN LEFT onto Bynum Road just after Allen and Sons.
The Bynum General Store will be on your left in about 1 mile.
To get to the Bynum General Store from the SOUTH:
Take 15-501 South.
Cross the Haw River.
Take the second RIGHT after the bridge onto Bynum Road.
The Bynum General Store will be on your left in about 1 mile.
To get to the Bynum General Store from Hiway 64:
hmmmm. . . I don’t have these directions as clear in my head. But
somewhere in the general vicinity of Jordan Lake you can cut across on
Mt. Gilead Church Road, Then take a left on Bynum Ridge Road. This
will come to a T intersection with Bynum Road, turn LEFT. The General
Store will be on your LEFT in about 1/2 a mile.
