Folks –
It is a temptation to assume that the police only act inappropriately against people who deserve it. That police only stop people who are guilty. That I don’t have to worry about how the police treat people, because I am a good guy and therefore the police will never stop me.
Well Kit I happen to agree with most of your post. Very much against laws and people who try to restrict my freedoms. And you are right about misuse of power.
HOWEVER I saw a post from a person who calls himself a law abiding citizen who took umbrage at the way he thought the officer treated him. He then goes on to say how he is NOT a stranger to speeding. Which tells me this person has a total disregard for the speed limit, which is there for a reason and is the law. I can imagine his attitude when he was stopped, right or wrong on my part.
There sure are police who should not be on the force or anywhere else for that matter. You find people like this in all positions of power, not only on the police force. That saying comes to mind, fear those who seek power on any level.
However this person took issue with this police officer and posted his feelings on this list.
But can Officer B Hadley defend himself on this forum/list? I do not think his superiors would/will allow it.
My post was simply pointing out that the way to avoid being stopped for speeding in Pittsboro is not to speed. You break the law, waste gas, and put others in jeopardy by speeding. Not about power plays or rights of anyone. The man made a choice and suffered the consequences. A ticket, he was not taken out of his car and beaten, clubbed or shot. He felt the
officer was not nice enough……..
And so I have as much ‘right’ to say how I feel about the matter when it appears on a public site, just like him and you.
