Subject: The Travelers?
I just wanted to advise everyone to check out references for handymen/painters carefully, especially those who just stop by.
Yesterday a man drove up in a nice pick-up truck and wanted to paint our barn roof. I was naturally suspicious as we don’t get people just stopping by out here. To make a long story shorter, I asked where he was from and he said South Carolina.
There was a news story about the Travelers a few years ago and how groups of men go around offering repair type services but it’s a real rip off. Evidently both the work is inferior and so are the products used – i.e., really watered down paint.
I do not know for sure that this man was one of these Travelers, but I would advise caution in contracting for any services from someone who just drives up and offers them.
