Subject: Deer Dodging…..Oh, What Fun
When you see one deer cross the road, expect more right behind it.
If you see a herd crossing the road, and one turns around and goes back, beware. Some of the others that have already crossed may turn around and run right in front of you. They are thinking herd instinct. Learned that one the hard way. Ouch. When it is mating season, like NOW, males, or as we prefer to be called, Big Strong Bucks, are totally oblivious to anything if they are following the scent of a doe in heat. Think the bar scene in the college days.
No one likes to run over any animal. I was trained to brake gently and swerve slightly if safe to do so. If not, hold on and stay straight on the road, don’t go in the ditch. If it is a large animal, like a deer, that may come through the windshield, duck, while keeping your eyes on the road of course. 🙂
