Low cost veterinary days?

Your friends at Pittsboro Animal Hospital advertises low cost veterinary days.  What they don’t say is that a rabies shot or other vaccinations require a $38  exam.  That’s $48 for a rabies shot.  For other vaccines, they give individual shots for a cat which would be $55 + $38 for the exam and a single shot for a dog at $15 + $38.

Their office manager says that other Pittsboro clinics have the same requirement. This does not seem low cost to me and I regard this as a scam. Chapel Hill vets do not have the same policy and there is no justification for it.  Orange and Chatham County have rabies clinics for $5 without a physical exam

The American Animal Hospital Association guidelines are on
http://www.aahanet.org/PublicDocuments/VaccineGuidelines06Revised.pdf
and recommend a single combination shot every three years.  Also see
http://www.vmth.ucdavis.edu/vmth/clientinfo/info/genmed/vaccinproto.html
which gives a simpler summary.  Actually one can easily obtain these vaccines for under $4 and give them yourself.  It takes a few minutes and is very easy
