Subject: experiences at Chapel Hill Tire at Cole Park
In response to the experiences at Chapel Hill Tire at Cole Park, I too have had similar bad experiences.
On 2 separate occasions, my oil cap was not replaced after an oil change. The first time it happened, my car was almost brand new. After driving all the way to Cary immediately after the the work was done, I noticed a very strong odor of gas. My stepdad and I discovered the oil cap sitting right on the engine! Of course, oil had blown all over the inside of the hood and engine. How I got as far as I did without blowing the engine is beyond me. Luck, I guess.
Chapel Hill tire steam cleaned the engine, apologized, and said that had never happened there before. When it came time for my next oil change, I decided to give them another chance. I asked the manager to open the hood in front of me so we could inspect it together. You got it, the oil cap was laying on top of the engine. I got my money back, and have not had my car back there since.
My son purchased tires for his truck there, and a few months later, the left front tire blew. We learned this when we took the tire to be looked at. The technician took one look at the tire and said it was a bad tire, that’s why it blew. He asked where we had gotten it. When I told him where it came from, he said nothing else.
When the tire blew, my son was headed north on 15-501 at 5:00 in UNC traffic. He jumped the median at Star Point, ending up in the other lane in the wrong direction! How he missed seriously injuring himself or someone else at that time is a miracle. Please be careful when dealing with Chapel Hill Tire at Cole Park. We kissed that place goodbye a LONG time ago!
