Subject: Candelori “facts”
Usually Steve Candelori’s rants aren’t worth responding to, in this case he asserted two facts in paragraph that need following up on. He wrote (about the LTT):
What bothered me about it was, once voted in, the actual rate could be raised without going back to the voters.
This is incorrect. The maximum tax rate of 0.4% was set by the legislature and could not be raised by commissioners
He also wrote:
Also, the pro-tax crowd in this county, largely, don’t own land and have not plans to buy any.
Besides your own prejudices, what do you base this claim on, Steve? Most of the people in Fearrington that you and other conservatives blame for supporting taxes own their homes. I own 20 acres. All but one or two of the people I know who have worked to support the LTT are a landowners in Chatham. Please provide documentation of your claim above, or retract it.
