Subject: Stealing? Or just scamming?
I was dropping off some things this weekend at the new PTA Thrift Shop in PBO, and was there before the store was open. So I went over to the drop box in the parking lot, and started unloading. There was an older woman sitting in a car near the drop box, and as I approached she said “I’ll take that.”
I noticed she had a load of stuff already in her car, and it struck me odd, so I said “if you’d like this, you can buy it from the thrift store.” As I unloaded my load of goods, I made sure to put them as far into the drop box as possible.
As I was driving away, she was joined by two other younger people, and I still wonder if they actually climbed into the box to get the things I put in there. I have seen the signs about people stealing from the thrift store box, but this was really surprising to me. Surely the stuff was going to end up at a flea market somewhere.
Just wondering what others feel about this practice; Also wonder if the PTA store is aware of this activity, and whether this action is criminal or just deceptive.
