I have to say something about the Voller Realty Corp candidate, John Foley

I can’t stand by silently.
 
I had to weigh in on the Town Commissioners race.
 
I spent decades in regional real estate before moving to Pittsboro.  I know the business.  Relationships are everything.  That’s why, even in retirement, I must say this anonymously.  Because I know so many people still in the business and I don’t want to jeopardize my friendships or put people in uncomfortable positions.
 
But I have to say something about the Voller Realty Corp candidate, Foley.


I find it hard to believe that anyone in the real estate industry, regardless of their character and integrity, could firmly resist the influence of the town’s biggest property developer, Chatham Park Investors.  For a realtor to vote against Chatham Park’s interests, it’s beyond imagining.  That would be a career killing move.  Certain members of the Preston Dev Corp / Chatham Park team are so vengeful, they are known as far away as New Hanover Co for crushing their opponents. 
 
Moderation with them has cost this town many millions of dollars.  The worst damage is not publicly known because it would embarrass seated and former commissioners. 
 
Did you see how they got NCDOT to act as a go-between to put their road right through the Country Routt Brown Road / North Woods neighborhood?!  They could have run it in the same direction on their land, just 200 yards away.  Horrible.  Sheer greed.
 
Somehow, CP even influenced the School Board to allow the destruction of the Northwood High School sign, a piece of history that ought to have been preserved.  Because “aesthetics.”
 
No, the only way Pittsboro will keep Chatham Park Investors from literally bulldozing the town is by making a clear stance. 
 
That’s why I’m voting for Bonnetz, Farrell, and Wilson.  That’s a balanced ticket.
 
Don’t get me wrong.  I’m all for growth, moderate growth, in character with the community.  And Lord knows we need more houses, desperately.  But this crew from Cary, the Preston Dev Corp / Chatham Park Investors, they are extreme.  And they can afford to do better.  We need a Board that will hold them to a higher standard.
