We just received a political ad by mail, mocking Chatham County’s capable representative in the NC House for supporting a bill that adopts “the current business standard mileage rate set by the Internal Revenue Service per mile of travel and the actual cost of tolls paid” for state legislators.  It claimed Representative Reives “is focused on his own gas bill” and announced the mailing is “Paid for by the NC Republican Party.”

There are many Republican legislators driving far longer than Robert Reives to conduct our state’s business, and the accusation against our representative seems to imply he should have refused to help Republican legislators meet the cost of doing their duty.  Is it a joke, or was this drafted by an out of state consultant, clueless about something Chatham and Randolph voters know:  Robert Reives only has a short drive to get to the state capital… in the next county?

Hold onto your hat.  Election season is on us!
