Friends of the Lower Haw will be holding an invasive species removal day on May 7

The Friends of the Lower Haw will be holding an invasive species removal day.

WHO: Volunteers 19 and older. Youth volunteers 12 to 18 can participate as well if accompanied by adult.

WHEN:  Saturday, May 7th at 9:30 am

WHERE: Lower Haw State Natural Area, directions below

Meet in Bynum at the lower parking lot off of Bynum Church road at 9:30 am. The Bynum Mill Access parking lot is located at the Haw River between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro. It is on the north side of the river, the Chapel Hill side. From US 15-501 coming from Pittsboro, turn right on Durham-Eubanks Road and follow it to the stop sign.  At the stop sign, cross over Bynum Road and continue uphill on Bynum Church Road. After passing the church, continue downhill on Bynum Church Road and the large State Parks parking lot will be on the right.

Please bring your own tools ( loopers, bow saws and other small hand saws), insect repellant, water to drink and proof of vaccination. Wear long pants and sturdy closed toe shoes. Participants do not need to volunteer for the whole time listed. Just come and begin at the stated time and leave when you need to.

There will be a short discussion about invasives and the species we will be targeting before we begin. Fill out the form below to participate.

NOTE: Current policies are still requiring volunteers to show proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test on the day of volunteering for volunteers 12 years and older. That means you must bring confirmation of your vaccination when you come to the workday. If you do not have proof then you cannot volunteer. Please bring your vaccination card.
