Bluegrass Experience performing at Bynum Front Porch on Friday, September 3

School is back in session and soon the nights will have that autum nip to the air. The end of the season is here. But, we’re going out with a bang! Bluegrass Experience will be performing at Bynum Front Porch this Friday for our last summer concert of the year. The show starts at 7:00, but get here early to grab dinner from the food truck and to pick the perfect spot under the stars.

This week we will be auctioning off a one-of-a-kind critter made by renowned folk artist Clyde Jones. This is a rare opportunity to own a well sought out piece of Chatham County art. Bring your checkbook!

Bluegrass Experience. Things got started, as they often do in this bluegrass rich region, with six friends competing together at the many fiddlers conventions in western North Carolina. When they won the World’s Championship Bluegrass Band at The Union Grove Fiddler’s Convention in 1972, the Experience was off and running, becoming a fixture at the Carlton Haney festivals and finding plenty of dates on the burgeoning college music scene.

They were invited to perform at the Finnish National Folk Festival in 1975, the only American band to be asked, and hosted a regular Thursday night show at Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill for nine years starting in ’72. Those shows at the Cradle often included visiting artists like Peter Rowan, Bobby Hicks, Dan Crary and Tony Williamson hopping up on stage to join them.

And they’re still going strong. Come see them Friday at 7:00.

As always, there is no charge for admission, but a pith helmet is passed to
collect tips for the band.

Please, no pets or alcohol.

In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved inside the historic
Bynum General Store.

Come rock with us.
