Bea and Freedom of Speech

In Chatlist 6770 Bea posted an assertion as follows:

Why are you all attacking a guy with an opinion about Covid-19??

Don’t we have freedom of speech in this country? I guess not anymore?

Because if a person says something that’s NOT lame stream media, then that person gets attacked!

It’s all very sad.

What is really sad here is that Bea confuses the private individual with the government. Freedom of speech is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution of The United States, which reads as follows:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

The careful reader will notice that neither the Constitution nor any other law under any other jurisdiction states that a private individual is prohibited from disagreeing with another private individual.

No, Bea, your hyperbolic nonsense notwithstanding, each of us is allowed to disagree with another individual, even to the point of a verbal attack. And you are allowed not to like it, and to say so.

Does that help to clarify it?

Thank you for your time.
