Update on the effort to bring Randolph fiber to 902 east of the Rocky River

Greetings Chatlisters,

It is time for an update on the www. BringRTTI.org effort to bring Randolph fiber to 902 east of the Rocky.  This is a modified version of the report I send every couple of weeks to the people on my team.   I debated sending it to the chatlist but then thought 1) This is a hot topic for chatham and I know many of you would be interested to know how it’s going.  2) It may be a good way to let others know what we are doing so if they try the same thing for their area, they can learn from our efforts.   So here it is:

*Update 1: Chatlisters are Awesome!! *

Our launch email to the chatlist was a big success.  We had a bunch of respondents who were all over the map, literally and figuratively. Literally we had some folks on the other side of the Rocky River and further south down Pittsboro Goldston (beyond the targeted fiber route) reach out to us to help.  Figuratively we had three or four people who either tried to help by sharing what they learned when they went through this process, or by using their own outlets.  For example, there is a Broadband for Chatham Facebook group that reposted all our information.

Thank you all who have reached out to me and for all of you who’ve promoted our effort to those who promoted this effort to the affected areas:

*Update 2: SIGNAGE*

You may have seen some of our Green RTTI apply signs as they are finally up!   We mostly followed the target route of 902/Pittsboro Goldston Rd, and Holly Ridge.  We have even had requests by homeowners who are asking for signs for their own yards.  A few disappeared, as we expected, but at some point, we’ll go back and put them up again, but this time in different locations.

*Update 3:  WEBSITE*

I hooked up google analytics to the www.BringRTTI.Org site.   As of right now we’ve had 140 unique users engage into 160 sessions.  When you consider we are targeting just 24 homes, this is Awesome!   PLEASE CONTINUE TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE SITE AND CHECK IT OUT… I’m constantly updating it!

Personal note: there are some really informative articles on the info tab. They are great links to understand why Chatham Internet is soooooo bad in all our rural areas.

*Update 4: No to Direct Mail but Yes to Little Plastic Baggies!*

Because we could not do direct mail, we went out and got the plastic door hanger bags and dropped our direct mail pieces off along Pittsboro Goldston between Holly Ridge and Pete Roberson.  We had put some letters out on 902 previously as well as some of the other roads off of 902.  We. of course kept our social distance. and we were still able to have some great conversations with folks who really want great Internet, intended to apply for service, and wanted to help us out.  It was awesome!

*Update  5: Community Actionables (Please Don’t forget)*

1)     Don’t forget, If you live on 902 east of the rocky, or on Pittsboro Goldston by 902 and do not want to fill out the application, you can at least fill out the interest form.  Just put in your address, and the interest form will pop up.  Remember: *Your interest isn’t counted if you don’t apply or fill in an interest form!* That link is here: https://www.myrandolphfiber.net/address-lookup/

2)    Please continue to spread the word however you can think to do it. Get your neighbors to apply if you have.   Get as many people to www.BringRTTI.Org as possible.  The more interests / applications, the closer we get.  I know there are a ton of folks on this route who want great fiber-based internet, but just need to be encouraged enough to apply or fill in the interest form.

*Update 9: Moving Forward*

I’m going to continue for the foreseeable future promoting through more handouts, more chatlist posts, and more activity, but at a more moderated pace.   I figure doing something every three or four weeks will keep the effort going without being too annoying.

As always thanks to those who are helping with all these efforts.  In the end, if we are successful, it’ll be another step forward for All of Chatham to get great broadband! Then all this effort will be worth it!

Best,

Mike P.
