Subject: Availability of meat and groceries due to Covid 19
According to several of my meat distributors we are in very uncertain times of availability and it is likely to get worse before it gets better. Due to the panic buying and hoarding there has been an immediate buyout of most store shelves across the country and due to the high and sudden demand the market is having issues restocking. Add to this the fact that the products come from all over the country and from places with varying levels of Covid 19 and you have plants that are running on skeleton crews and the same applies to the distribution network with meat sitting in certain places unable to move due to lack of workers. One salesman said this was worse than if we had a hurricane and a winter storm at the same time so we should expect this to be the short term norm. Wholesale pricing is edging up due to the higher labor costs and market demand as well.
At Ray’s Supermarket in Moncure NC we have worked with multiple vendors and are still operating with most meats in stock at this time but our last trucks of the week are arriving this afternoon and therefore the weekend things are likely to start a turn for the worse with us. We have the best customers and very few are hoarding which allows for more people to take advantage of our limited inventory. We encourage you to remain calm during this unprecedented time and hope you will come by and get some meat and other needed items and check out Chatham County’s best kept secret old fashioned meat market and country store. Our address is 901 Old US 1 Moncure NC 27559 (919)542-2183 and we are open until 8pm daily.
