Subject: My thoughts on more Tax Bull Sh!t  !

I grew up a conservative blue dog democrat. I listened to the political pundants at large in the Democratic  party promise all sorts of help for the poor and working man such as education for skilled jobs to lift people out of poverty while making the rich pay their fair share of taxes .  It was the working mans party not the socialist party .   What I have seen over the last few years is the same bunch of lies while Democrats blow our hard earned tax dollars on feel good projects and useless agendas  that should have been left to private enterprise while taking every opportunity to raise taxes on those who can afford it the least the disabled , elderly  and working poor .  They continue to promise free stuff to buy votes but in the end what they are promising is more tax burdens on people who are fed up with what amounts to organized crime pilfering their hard earned money .

The statement was made that the CCGOP hadn’t brought any revenue to Chatham and my question is what has the Democratic party brought to Chatham other than uncontrollable explosive growth ? We have commissioners who rubber stamp every new development placed in front of them . They gave us  higher taxes and the biggest division since the civil war ?   You could blame some of it on the CCGOP but since the Democratic party has been firmly in control over the last few years they have made no attempt to slow growth and bring in real jobs . New box stores , shopping centers , breweries and coffee shops are not places you build a career to raise a family .  High density developments do not pay their share of the tax burden and only offer mid to high end housing displacing even  more of the lower income families in Chatham .

The assumption any liquor by the drink measure brought in lots of jobs and revenue would be true if 90% of the country were drunks .  Passing any liquor by the drink measure just brings Chatham into the 21st century but does little to add substantive revenue and good paying jobs .    But the fact democrats point out the importance of  liquor by the drink referendums  states volumes about what they think are important priorities .

Impact fees combined with skyrocketing fees and permits all but eliminated low end home ownership for the working poor of Chatham . Have you noticed there are fewer and fewer mobile homes being put in Chatham ?   The impact fee , new zoning , septic tank requirements all but make it economically unfeasible to get a loan on a mobile home but yet there are those who want to add yet another tax to make it even more expensive. Modular homes have peaked as they look like real stick built homes and are in many cases better but also can be as expensive as stick built .  Modular’s are not a less expensive option anymore but a quicker option for those wanting to get into a home fast .  This leaves young families fighting for rentals that rent for as much as a home payment .  These new developments aren’t built to be affordable housing but cater to high middle income new residents who work outside the county .    We don’t need any more taxes , we need to slow growth like many other towns and counties have by limiting the number of homes per acre and giving our farmers more tax breaks to keep farms going .

Many elderly and disabled in this  county have not seen substantial raises in years .  Property taxes have gone up as much or more than ten times what socials security has .  Someone I know got an $8 increase a month on their socials security .  A total of $96 a year but their  property taxes increased by $245 leaving them with even less money a month to buy meds and pay bills .  So if you want to pay more taxes that’s fine but don’t advocate spending others money who can’t afford it .

It’s time we stop the madness and tighten up the purse strings and slow growth and out of control spending .  People are fed up with seeing their tax dollars blown on parks and projects that do little to improve the lives of folks struggling in Chatham .   I did not leave the democratic party , it left me and I chose not to run after it . I am an unaffiliated voter like 1/3 of Chatham voters and we can make a difference .   To every die hard democrat , if your not happy with the party you have supported all your lives its time you give it  an attitude adjustment .

Vote NO March 3rd  for the Tax Increase .
