Subject: BEWARE: Food Lion in Pittsboro Sells meats outdated by 6 days!
Today we bought Stony River Beef Ribeye steaks thinking they were within expiration date. When we opened them they were rotten and smelled terrible. We should have looked at the expiration date! Surely with an expiration date of 7/28/19 Food Lion should have pulled them from the shelf by today 8/3/19!
We talked to the store manager, Cheyne Mencke and he offered to return our money. He would not let us get other steaks that cost $8.00 more for our ruined dinner and time taken from our evening dealing with this. We consulted with the another store Manager in an adjacent cityand that manager said that was the least Mr. Mencke could do and this manager had no problem with giving us a break on fresh steaks to compensate us. Mr. Oxendine is the area manager and we intend to talk to him.
5 on your side will be investigating such practices by Food Lion.
Yes we learned that you can’t depend on Food Lion to get expired meats off of the shelf. You better check expiration yourself. Food Lion rather sell you expired meat than to take it off the shelf, they want to sell everything possible because the dollar is more important that our health.
