Subject: Request to Introduce myself
I was recently led to the Chatham Chatlist and would like to introduce myself. My name is Ed Bronson and I’m a retired HS principal for Career and Technical Education (CTE) near Rome, New York. As a regional CTE campus, some component sending schools were rural and quite small while others were urban and much larger. It was a privilege to work with an amazing faculty having substantial real world experience and education in careers like: Carpentry, Electrical/HVAC, Heavy Equipment, Auto Technology, Auto Collision, Nursing, EMT, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Engineering, Information Technology (website management), Computer Programming, Graphic Communication, Early Childhood Education, Equine Science, Conservation, and Career Exploration.
Nearly 1,100 students attended half-day sessions (AM or PM) where the integration of academics was a consistent instructional priority. Teachers were able to engage a majority of students across wide ability levels and family backgrounds. Numerous class Valedictorians enrolled along with students that could be roughly referred to as “average”, learning disabled, emotionally disturbed, physically challenged, or on probation. The overall positive feedback from students, their parents, component schools, colleges, and employers convinced me that hands-on learning is a critical component for helping all students to better understand, apply, and remember vast amounts of information.
My wife and I love Pittsboro and look forward to meeting more people and making new friends. We previously lived in Alamance County in a more rural setting. I love to garden, read widely, and still believe that helping children learn how to navigate through an increasingly chaotic world, in order to find success in life, is the most important thing that one can do at this stage of life.
