Subject: HOA and energy sustainability
From what I’ve heard, HOAs like Powell Place don’t allow solar panels. Other developers also deny residents the ability put out clothes lines, which save energy. Is there any way to prevent a developer or HOA from limiting access to solar power or other energy saving techniques?
Mark Stinson makes some good points about developers and HOAs limiting freedoms for residents who want some of the conveniences and property values of these, but he lumps everything he hates in there with them. Briar Chapel and Chatham Park and Powell Place and Chatham Ridge were in play before the county zoning took place. Progressives and HOAs don’t fit, either, since developers are following capitalist principles, it seems, and a more top down control rather than a progressive humanistic value system that most progressives would endorse. Progressives are more about social justice than limiting access to freedoms like choosing house paint colors and solar panels.
