Thank you Debbie Tunnell and Cathy Holt for caring and commenting about protecting land along the river that is not part of the state’s natural area already. A 2,000 foot buffer would be better, but it seemed more than your web footed friends could ask for from Chatham Park. The town has jurisdiction over this area as part of the ETJ, which means even if the county has had a land use plan that protected the watershed, Pittsboro and Chatham Park are the ones that hold the future health of the river in their hands.

Everybody who cares about conserving the trees and wildlife habitat and protecting the watershed from storm water runoff along the river should contact:

Cindy Perry, Mayor and the Pittsboro Commissioners, or  Jeff Jones, Planning Director, Town of Pittsboro.
