Subject: “Outside workers” not welcome in Chatham?
I’m not sure why Costco has been singled out by Virginia Penley as a “need” for our county. I for one do not have an extra $60 per year to become a “member”. I prefer to shop where “membership” is not required. For now I’ll support the Pig and the Lion with my grocery business. But, if you like Costco … go ahead and take your business across the county line; this is still a free country!
Promoting businesses that require special “membership” fees and making such statements as “it makes a difference who we recruit”, “purports to be a Christian company, which I personally find suspicious”, “recruits outside workers”, and “non-Chatham Korean workers” make me feel Virginia does not want “outside” people in her county. Certainly not what I expected from a political party leader.
I’ve never had a lot of money, no jewelry store or any business as such…came to Chatham as an “outside worker”… ( I worked outside Chatham before moving here)…even worked in a chicken plant once for a short period of time…It did not take me long to figure out that I did not want to make a career there! I hear they have machinery to eviscerate now, but back in the early 70’s they used people with small hands! I learned great respect for those who work in any part of agriculture and food industry.
As a Chatham resident I later became another kind of “outside worker” …driving outside the county for employment for over 25 years.
I love God, my country, and my county, but really hate the divisions that have erupted in the last few years.
Thirty-Seven year resident, feeling like an “Outsider” Crawling back in my box…for now…
