Subject: Recommended groundhog trapper

Thanks to everyone who sent me recommendations for trappers who could help me with my latest varmint problem — groundhogs. I got five separate recommendations for Jimmy Vickrey, so I called him. He is licensed by the state to trap out a diverse array of problem creatures. He came out the day after we called him and spent three hours studying the lay of our land (five acres). It didn’t take him long to identify their gigantic burrow — well-hidden in an area we almost never go near. Honestly, the hole was so large and the burrow so deep that my active imagination wondered if ogres might dwell within.

Mr. Vickrey set six traps. Before dark the first day, a groundhog was caught in the trap, which surprised even Mr. Vickrey. He came back out and re-set the traps, saying he was sure a large male was still lurking about and needed to be caught. Much to Mr. Vickrey’s surprise, the big male got himself caught on the evening of the day he caught the first one. He was pretty sure that was all of them, but he re-baited the traps one more time to be sure. However, no other groundhogs have been caught, and nothing is digging under the fence to my vegetable garden anymore. No more beans and carrot tops have been eaten, and we feel certain that our groundhog problem is solved — at least for now.

Mr. Vickrey is an impressive professional trapper with enough stories to keep you fascinated for as long as he is willing to talk. I cannot recommend him highly enough. We thought his rates were very reasonable.

The next time a varmint starts causing us more trouble than we can handle ourselves, you can be sure Mr. Vickrey will be the first person we call. He’s not an email kind of guy, but he promptly answers his phone early or late: 919-542-4350.
