Subject: Chatham Community Players Will Perform Steel Magnolias in Sweet Bee Theater, Pittsboro

In their first ever production, the Chatham Community Players are tickled pink to present Robert Harling’s stage and screen classic, Steel Magnolias, for 8 performances at the Sweet Bee Theater in Pittsboro, NC. This limited engagement is directed by Tammy Matthews.

It’s the 1980’s in Louisiana and at Truvy’s Beauty Shop the motto is: “There’s no such thing as natural beauty.”  As six Southern women gather weekly at Truvy’s over a period of two years, gossip, revelations, and witty banter flow like refreshing sweet tea on a hot summer day. Their bonds of friendship are tested when they must face a life-changing event. Each woman in her own way displays both the strength of steel and the beauty of magnolias as these friends come together to offer heaping helpings of love, laughter and tears.

Sweet Bee Theater in Pittsboro’s Center for the Arts was opened by Pittsboro Youth Theater in early 2017; it is the only public live-performance theater in Chatham county. While the Sweet Bee Theater has been the home of the Pittsboro Youth Theater for the five years, Steel Magnolias is the debut production of the newly formed adult theater troupe, the Chatham Community Players. The Steel Magnolias ensemble cast features all-local talent, including Brenda Linton (M’Lynn), Paula Francheska Marinis (Shelby), Stephanie Arndt (Truvy), Sharon Camel (Annelle), Cricket Jones (Ouiser), and Kathi Parker (Clairee).

Steel Magnolias performances run from June 22 through July 1, 2018 – Fridays (7pm), Saturdays (2pm and 7pm) and Sundays (4pm).  Tickets, priced at $10 each, can be purchased online at https://www.pittsboroyouththeater.com or at the door while they last. Sweet Bee Theater is located in the new Center for the Arts in the heart of downtown (behind SunTrust bank) at 18A East Salisbury St., Pittsboro, NC.
