Hey Mark,
If you are interested in preparedness for disaster, check out what the Mormons (Latter Day Saints) have been doing for generations. Such preparedness is a central part of the LDS tradition (which I acknowledge I am not a part of). There is a major temple in Apex. I am sure they would be happy to talk with you and share their materials.
