Subject: Chatham Park and Quality of Life of folke who already live here
Of course Chatham Park investors (I am not one and already live here) intend to make money. But it is not a sound business model for Chatham Park to destroy the quality of life here; it is that quality that those investors depend on to attract home buyers and commercial renters. The sheer number of new people will change the county, bringing in new customers and businesses AND causing more traffic and congestion and needing more schools and police and fire protection.
I am glad we are alert to the changes and expect to channel the new development to maximize the benefits and minimize the disruptions.
Looking at NE Chatham County, and I remember when ‘Cole Park Plaza’ area was only a side road west from single lane 15-501 and forests and fields and Fearrington was a dairy, seems to me we have done rather well so far. Governor’s Club and Fearrington Barn opening up for Chatham fund raising events, and many of our newcomers from Fearrington Village and Carolina Meadows and Briar Chapel et al have contributed a great deal of time and talent and money to many efforts for our community.
May we continue to challenge each generation and each wave of newcomers to build on past accomplishments.;
