Leaf burning is anything but ignorance

“I complained to my daughter last week about a farmer who lives in the country on acres of land, including woods, who was burning leaves in his yard. “Why doesn’t he just dump them in the woods and let Nature reclaim them? The smoke is going a mile or more down the road. I hope that neighbor down the road doesn’t have asthma or emphysema.”

Oops, there is that slippery slope about personal rights and where do they end…”

Sue,
I can’t believe that leaf burning is anything but ignorance. Allowing the leaves to self compost in the woods is sooooo easy, and sooooo much better for the soil and the air and the woods and sooooo much less trouble for the person doing the burning.
Even in town we taxpayers pick up leaves and compost them!
IMO, there is no trampling on ‘personal rights’ here, except maybe the right to remain ignorant, and that right ends where the rights of the rest of us begins, just like not getting vaccinated!
