Subject: We need your help building a watchdog site/council for nursing facilities and group homes.

Hello,

Would you know how to find out if a facility has had fatalities or multiple abuse/neglect charges placed upon them? Would you know what ratio of staff to client your loved one would receive? Would you know which is the preferred facility in your county in which you live? How can you feel confident you picked the right facility for your loved one?

We are currently building members for a council that will help promote positive care at short term and long term care facilities, and moderate the care that is being given. Also, help the public made informed choices as to where they or their loved one goes.

Until we had a loved one stay at a facility and passed unexpectedly we did not have answers to these questions and many more. So when you know better, you do better. We have purchased a domain www.carecheckcouncil.org and have funding for this site to be built. I however, would like a community approach to this to meet the needs of residents in our county. I want your expertise, input, and background that will only make this site better, more user friendly, and effective.

I envision a site loosely like the Better Business Bureau in that facilities will be given a rating system of 5 stars or less based on feedback given by loved ones, visitors and those would have first hand knowledge of advances or challenges within these facilities.

At the same time funding can be a challenge for these places. We want to give community members ideas and information on how you can support people at their most vulnerable within these facilities.

We are all getting older. We may/may not face having to place a loved on in the care of others. Wouldn’t like to have a hand at making sure it is a facility you have peace about placing them with? If so, please contact me at or text me at (336) 213-4694 to attend a meeting October 7th at 6:30 and location will be announced and communicated.

Thanks,
Holly Rickman
