Cary man disses Chatham farmers

Some of you may say “Big deal. He’s just some loon from Cary. What do you expect from someone from Cary? They think they know EVERYTHING!”
Well people, this person from Cary is the one and only Jim Elza. And Jim doesn’t want to only be the master of his own domain of a third of an acre, but he also wants to be the master of your domain, and especially the domain of thousands of acres of unzoned acres in western Chatham County. Acres that he has no business being master of.
You see, Jim is planning to accomplish this because he is a member of the Chatham County planning board. In particular Jim Elza is the chair of the land use development sub-committee. This is the committee that is supposed to hear from Chatham County citizens and get their input. However, as we can see from the video, Jim already has his mind made up.
As the former planning director of Polk County, IOWA, Jim probably thinks he knows more than anyone else (except maybe George Lucier) in the county on how their land needs to be managed.
He uses an anecdote about a farmer who said he didn’t want to be zoned, but an elected official told him he had been zoned since 1964. Maybe Jim, what the farmer simply meant was that he didn’t want any more restrictions placed on his land. That he had enough government restrictions to already deal with.
Jim is also NOT a friend of Chatham County hunters and gun enthusiats. He fails to realize that many people keep guns for hunting and safety reasons. When your local sheriff may be more than 30 minutes awat from you and you can’t see your neighbors’ house, having a gun on premise can be a life saver.
Unfortunately Jim doens’t think that people in Chatham County want gun ranges. Jim thinks we will all be so stunned by his intelligence that he didn’t even bother to check and see that Wake, Orange and Durham counties actually have gun ranges in the county.
Do a quick Google search and you will find at least 3 gun ranges in Wake County and 2 in Durham county. Do you think that with people like Jim Elza and the Chatham Coalition commissioners in charge that we will ever be able to see an operation gun range in Chatham County?
Several other things, Jim –
Love to hear you refer to any land use “scheme”, because it certainly sounds like a “scheme”.
Chatham Park is planned for a zoned part of the county. So much for the argument that zoning will solve all growth “problems”.
And what the heck does “Open Use is Zoning and not a Salami Sandwich” mean? Where you hungry when you wrote that line? Or were you standing in line at the local Subway restaurant?
For everyone else –
Now take a minute after you view the video and ask yourself – “What the heck did this man just say?”
Basically, Jim rambled on for 3 minutes and provides no credible and overwhelming arguments for zoning the unzoned areas of Chatham county.
It might have served the citizens of Chatham County better if Jim had just sat home on Monday evening and enjoyed his salami sandwich.
