NAPA – Walker Automotive, Pittsboro

I have shopped at the NAPA store for more than forty years, since 1972, possibly before Rober Reid bought and ran it. I’ve traded with Archie Hackney and Curt when they worked there, and Robert’s son, Rob. Robert passed away not long ago.

The store was sold to Walker Automotive of Chapel Hill. I continued to trade with them out of deference and because Rob still worked there. My account did not transfer to Walker.

I spend between $500 and $1500/year on parts there. Some years more. Not a big amount, but I expect some recognition, respect and accountability. It is usually given by most of my vendors, along with courtesy.

I returned a tool which broke while performing what it should have. It may be worth $15-20. The gear puller is used rarely, if ever, by most people. I did not have a receipt, but they staff should have recognized me. I just purchased parts worth $130 two days before. There is not much traffic in the store to begin with.

The new boy refused replacement without a receipt. Store policy, I am sure.. But he was too busy talking to the girl there two days ago to recognize me and had not been there on my previous trips. Rather than questioning the regular girl, he adopted an attitude which was not customer friendly.

I left the other parts I was ready to purchase on the counter and walked to the door. Before I left, I said, “If you don’t know me, I don’t know you.”

My last penny spent at Walker Automotive NAPA in Pittsboro.
