Subject: Immigrants to this country – “legal” and otherwise

“Give me your tired, your Poor Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore
Send these, the Homeless, tempest-tossed to me
I lift my lamp beside the Golden Door” poem by Emma Goldman.

These words are engraved on the Statue of Liberty.

The poem referred to by Kathy Zinn was written by Emma Lazarus in 1883 not Emma Goldman . Lazarus is best known for “The New Colossus”, a sonnet written in 1883; its lines appear on a bronze plaque in the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty placed in 1903. Lazarus was from a wealthy family and a poet who helped Jews entering this country from Russia and surrounding countries that persecuted them .The lady Kathy Zinn referred to Emma Goldman was an anarchist who immigrated to New York from Russia . During her life, Goldman was lionized as a free-thinking “rebel woman” by admirers, and denounced by critics as an advocate of politically motivated murder and violent revolution. Her writing and lectures spanned a wide variety of issues, including prisons, atheism, freedom of speech, militarism, capitalism, marriage, free love, and homosexuality. She was part of an assassination attempt on Henry Clay Frick . Her actions eventually caused her to be deported from the USA Liberals cant even get their history right but it doesn’t surprise me they would idealize an anarchist and try to rewrite history to suit their point of view .

Ellis Island is in plain view of the Statue of Liberty where over 12 million immigrants were properly documented and LEGALLY entered the United States to become American citizens . An estimated 2% were deported back to their respective countries being considered high risk or detained under health issues to either die in the Ellis Island immigrant hospital or be deported . There is a right and wrong way to do everything and it depends on a system of laws and regulations to make it fair and just for those who abide by and are protected by those laws. Legal immigration works , any other way is dangerous and careless .
