Subject: Security Problem?
“Heather Johnson was obviously entitled to have a little fun since my idea for a letter was leaked to her from a Democratic Party group thought to be secure. She’s actually done us a favor by flagging the security problem.”John Graybeal
Chatlist readers:
Is it a “security problem” when your ideas become public knowledge? Perhaps if John did not intend that it be public knowledge, greater thought should have been taken before posting it in digital form.
We should all be involved in government whether we are an elected official or not. The attendance at commissioner’s meetings would reveal that most residents do not themselves have time to attend meetings even once a month. One of the greatest communication advancements our county has is the openness of the commissioner meetings and the fact that they are available publicly, in video form, and have been since 2011 ( if one has adequate broadband service–). I have used it myself to contest and/or verify the factual content of summaries posted on Chatham Chatlist and other sites.
As to my thoughts on whether Chatham County Commissioners should have other sources of income, I think having a job and/or creating jobs is an excellent example of how life works. I think the number one qualification for office is the example the candidate displays with their life. There would be some political offices that would require greater time dedication and might be advisable for one to leave their business dealings to others in order to be a successful public policy maker (ie. state and national level).
There is a quote, “If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it” and I don’t know who to attribute it to, as a search on the internet gives both Ben Franklin and Lucille Ball credit, but I have found it to be an accurate statement. Perhaps we should all ask ourselves, are we busy people, or busybodies? There are lots of issues in our county that need our attention. We all need to be busy.
