Pittsboro does not want to claim Jeff Starkweather as one of its home town boys

It was recently mentioned on the Chatlist that Jeff Starkweather was suing his “home town”… I was born in Chatham County and raised in Pittsboro. Believe me we do not want to claim Starkweather as one of our home town boys. If he were, it would be quite an embarrassing reality.

Personally the first time I heard or saw Jeff (as legend has it) was when he had come down out of his tree house in the woods and was often seen walking the streets of Pittsboro (I believe in the 60’s or ’70’s). Back then we were the 1,000+ town of Pittsboro recently mentioned, which has grown to nearly 4000….. He was one of those people Pittsboro didn’t really like moving in on us back then either. From what is obvious on the Chatlist, most people still don’t like having him around 40+/- years later; even those 2-3000 newcomers. It would be interesting to know where he did come from.

Jeff tried to be a big fish in a big pond when he ran for state office and failed at that. Now he keeps striving to be a big fish in a little pond. He can’t make that either. He thinks he is important and wants everyone else to think he is important too… so sad that he cannot be a positive part of the community.
